Can I decrease the viscosity?

I have an old Bogen Manfrotto 116 MK2 head that is too stiff for panning even when the drag adjustment ring is loosened all the way. Is there a way for me to decrease the viscosity of the "fluid" inside so the head will pan smoothly and easily?

Hi Stephen............

Yep, this can be fixed.

Throw it in the bin and buy a new Vinten Vision 3/ 5/ 8 AS or a Sachtler FSB 6/ 8 etc and it will work just fine.

You won't believe the difference, even after trying them.
