Gitzo G2380
I am strongly considering a GITZO G2380 Fluid Head. Anyone have any advice on this or for the price point would you recommend something better ($200 shipped). I will be using a GL2 camcorder.

I've been using one of these with my Canon XM1/GL1 for three years now on a set of Gitzo carbon legs.
I am quite happy with it except that the fluid drag is rather high for the ultra lightweight legs. Newton's third law tends to take over during panning and the legs move if they are on a smooth surface! Most of the time I use it with a Manfrotto half ball to make it easier to level, and a Manfrotto sliding plate to balance the camera - I almost always have a Sony 1.7X convertor on the camera. The two movements are very smooth and, as I say, well damped. |
