Is this TOO much tripod for me??
I have a chance to get a Miller DS30 (I think it's a DS30, it has a big 30 on the head) from a local TV station for free.
Is this beast way to big for use with a GL2? Also the tripod has a funky head on it that I think was used for big shoulder mount cameras. Any idea if I can get a mounting plate for a smaller camcorder for it? Thanks

Yes... It is too much tripod for you. But, you could send it to me... ;)
Seriously, it may be a bit more than what you need- right now. But, as time goes on, will you be getting more serious with your camera? A year or two down the road, you may find yourself with a larger cam, and those are mighty fine tripods. Pricey too. But, if you still have any doubts, please send it on to me. Really...

Any idea on where or how to get the plate that will fit a normal camcorder?

There's not such thing as too much of fine equipment like this head! It may look a little silly having the canon on this thing, but who cares. Your shots will be smooth, and that's the important thing.
