PortaBrace makes a padded hard-shell case that looks great, although it's probably a bit pricey.
For hard-shell, I use a case that I purchased along with my Sachtler DV-6 (as part of the kit). It's basically an ugly black heavy-duty plastic tube, very generic, and able to handle either the Sachtler or the Vinten.

To be honest, I've never tried to ship the soft case through baggage. I'd be nervous.
I've found Vinten's hard case, into which you would drop the soft case. A bit $$, as you'd expect.

Hard Case for Vinten
I like working close to home, but unfortunately I have to head down to Texas for a shoot. (Dont get me wrong, I like Texas, I just hate traveling). I was looking to purchase a hard tripod case for my Vinten--unfortunately the company cases run in the 500 dollar range. Does anyone have any suggestions for a case that would cost minimally less and would provide good protection.

I bought a golf case from the Sports Authority. About $130, and protects the equipment from typical airline handling.
Just keep the Vinten in its padded case and pack the whole thing in the golf case. Works really nicely, plus it's got wheels. It'll also allow you to pack light stands if you need 'em. The one I is gold colored and textured as though it's made from fiberglass. It's actually a tough, impact-resistant plastic. Dean Sensui Base Two Productions. |
