It's been asked before...

I'm sure it's been asked before, but what's a good tripod for under a thousand?

And... if I can scrape together the extra cash, under two thousand?

From doing some brief browsing on this forum, I think that I should try to get the extra money. Sounds like it would do me well.

Thanks for you time and effort!

Find the old "Miller DS5" thread, and there you will be able to find DS5 details and an AU dealer that sells them for about that price.

He just got a slightly used Panasonic DVC200 for Christmas. So the DS5 would be not enough muscle.

I have a DS-5 and love it. And you're right, it has been asked before so if you search or even just browse back through this forum you should find lots of helpful info.

Search this forum (using the link in my signature or the button in the upper right of this window) for Miller, Sachtler, Vinten and Gitzo. They are the cream of the crop, in my opinion. Vinten and Sachtler in the high range of your budget and Gitzo and Miller in the low end.

Thanks guys!

I just needed some pointers to get me started.

Jeff, I just got a Panasonic DVC200 for Christmas. I'm looking at some hefty heads, it seems.

Thanks again!
