bogen 3160 and 3001n?
hello all,
i am in the market for a new tripod for my gl2, wal marts quality ambico sticks just dont cut it anymore and i need a fluid head for filming surfing. i was looking at the 3160 head which appears to be discontinued which made me consider it more b/c i could find it for cheaper (tristate photo) what im looking for, and im not sure if the 3160 and 3001n legs offer it or not, is: a fluid head for filming surfing (a lot of pans) , heavy enough legs to support my cam and large battery as well as withstand wind gusts, and a reasonable price... i dont see the need in spending 400 dollars right now. if anyone thinks this is a good solution to my query or know of something better that i should look into, i would appreciate it. thanks jerry |

gitzo's and bogen's are the best, you will not regret it.

I purchased the 3001n black legs and 501 head as a kit from B&H. I think it is descent for the money. I usually hang 5 lbs on the tripod when I use it to stabilize and I wish the head was better quality for panning with a long lense. I tried out the 3160 head at a local shop and it seemed to feel about as good as the 501. If you can find both of those cheap is should be a descent setup for you.
