New Sachtler owner needs help

I'm the proud owner of a DV 8/100 system. A wonderful piece of craftsmanship but the instructions that come with it leave something to be desired and the website is not much help either. In fact there were no instructions for the legs or spreader.

This is my first "leveling bowl" system so I want to make certain I have it set up correctly

1) Does the base of the head sit flush in the bowl or does it stand up a little, as in my picture below? The instructions are ambiguous. I'm assuming that it does not drop all the way into the bowl of the legs and the attachment screw underneath is used to move the head to and fro' until it is leveled on the bubble level (regardless of how the legs are extended). Is this correct?

2) What is the nylon cord thingy that extends out from one of the legs? Do I use this to dry my wet laundry in the hotel room :))

3) What is the cup-hook thingy on the underside of the bowl on the legs?

Thank you.

The leveling bowl sits up like in the photo to allow adjustment to level the head. All is good there.

The nylon cord is to wrap around the two other legs and clip to the last one to hold the legs together when collapsed for transport.

The clip hangy thing is to hang additional weight, like sand bags, if required for stability or to tie the tripod down to your platform when outdoor. Or for hanging your lunch bag.
