Balance Back-Heavy Camera on Tripod

I use a Canon HF100 AVCHD camcorder on a Velbon Videomate 607. This camcorder is "back-heavy", so when I am not attending to the tripod/head, the camcorder slowly falls back till it's pointing up at the sky.

Is there some simple adaptor plate that would allow me to adjust the camcorder forward a couple of inches so that it would be balanced properly, with 50% of it's weight in the front and 50% in the back? I assume I would attach my camcorder to the plate, then attach the plate to the quick-release plate on my tripod head. Thanks.
