Lightweight Tripod and Head for EX1
I want to go trekking with my EX1.
I have a Satchler DV6SB head and Speed Lock tripod but it's just too much weight to carry with the EX1. I also have a Manfrotto Mdev tripod with a 701 head. While the weight is better, it's not really ideal for the EX1. Can anyone suggest a compromise? |

Lightweight Tripod and Head For EX1
John, The Gitzo G1128 MK 2, a Carbon Fiber light weight. The Max Height with EX1 mounted about 53." Legs open out to almost horizontal (No centre column extension). I machined a new stub centre column about 3.5" long that allows camera to mount at ground level if required. If you consider this mod worth while, simply cut the original Column down to size. (Column has a locking key that prevents rotation, remove this as it's annoying and of no benefit)
Fluid head: Miller Junior, I think these are now light alloy. The complete rig is feather weight. I also carry a Velbon 263Q alloy quick release Ball Head for still photography and sometimes the EX1. Regards. |
