Gitzo 1380 head and monopod switch

Hey all,

I have a Gitzo tripod with a G1380 fluid head. I would like to buy a monopod that has a mount that would accept the same quick release plate as the 1380. This way I could switch from tripod to monopod very quickly.

Is there such as thing? I've been searching around and can't find anything.

Thanks a million,
Vito

Put the Gitzo 2180 fluid head on any monopod:

You can use this head with or without the pan bar. You can lock it down if you can lock it down if you want.

This head takes the same plates as the 1380. I have both heads and even the extra long plate for the 1380 will fit on the 2180 head.

(The 2180 head is also handy if you want to be ultra portable or for use with a DSLR.)

Hi Jack,

I was hoping to find something without having to buy another head. I would like to go as light as possible, and to be honest, I can't figure out why you would need a fluid head on a monopod.

If I want to get an overhead shot I'd have to stop and lock the camera down or it would flop all over the place. The monopod would be mostly for when I shoot events, and speed is important.

And wouldn't panning be the same with or without the head? The single foot would twist anyway. I suppose tilting would be much better.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. Best idea I've seen yet. I just wish there were some kind of plate you could throw on a monopod that would let you switch easily.

The 2180 head is pretty light and small.

Here is a Bogen monopod with a quick release, but it's basically the same thing as using the Gitzo small head:

It's probably cheaper than the Gitzo head and a monopod bought separately.

I believe the Gitzo plate may fit this Bogen, but I don't know for sure.

The problem seems to be that you need some kind of base that will take the Gitzo plate.

Here's a Bogen monopod quick release system for $33, but I don't think it will take the Gitzo plate, though you could check:
