manfro/miller combo
good Afternoon,
Often times we get great information, use it and never come back to reply. After much decision and advice from this forum, I purchased a manfrotto 525mvb. I placed my ancient miller F fluid head on these legs (I got it with wooden legs). Now after using it a lot I can give a bit of information on this combo. On ebay you can find these elderly heards for about 150 dollars and up. I purchased a 75mm half ball to go on the bottom of the head and mounted it. the legs are dead sturdy and I have virtually no movement. the miller head gives solid smooth pans and is adjustable and locks easily enough. the real test was doing diagonals and after making some adjustments, and there are not many, this move can be readily made. It stops very nicely. With the xl2, rail underneath, 100/400mm lens I can balance it well for most shots. If I have to shoot steep then I do the move and then lock it off and all is well. with my gl2 it is dead steay everywhere I stop it. the miller head does not have any swing back which is a blessing. In the big picture it is a huge improvement and will do wonderfully until I get a vision 6 or arrow 30 head to go on these legs!!
