Hawaii in Alaska

The weather here has been completely crazy for this time of the year. Welcome to the new world banana belt!
Usually right now we have 3+ feet of snow, and are frozen hard as a rock.

Clip 1 from ADN:
The week of chaos has included mudslides and high winds in Girdwood, which suspended all mountain activity, schools closing early in Fairbanks after rains caused slick roads, wind gusts blasting an on-duty ambulance off the road in Cooper Landing.

On the lighter side, Clip 2 from ADN:
There are some benefits. The air has acted as a blow drier in the Mat-Su Valley, where the Palmer Golf Course opened for play on Wednesday. The course's head pro, Jeff Barnhart, welcomed a dozen golfers to the course by noon.

That's horrible. I'm going to college in Seattle right now but I've lived my whole life in Anchorage and we been having a few disappointing winters. I was hoping to head home for some snowmachining at spring break but it doesn't look like that's going to be happining.

I hear you. On the other hand, I was out washing the car in shorts and sandals last week. Hard to beat that for Febuary in Canada.

Sounds like things are in reverse. The temperature has been in the low 40's in Houston (cool enough for us) and San Antonio and Austin had snow flurries.

I can do without snow though. I worked on the DEW Line on Barter Island for a number of years. Those were the days. The Northern Lights were south of us !

Don't get rid of your long underwear just yet. Winter is not over up there.

Cheers, Nick
