Hurricane Katrina
Hey guys, I just got back from 10 days in Gulfport, MS. I was there from Sept 1st and got home Saturday evening on the 10th. I was there with the US EPA and even managed to do helecopter fly over of the coast from LA State line to Pasquagula, MS which is over close to Mobil, AL. It is truely a horrable mess. I did a lot of videoing and took over 350 digital shots from the air and ground. For those that may have been there, highway 90, the beach road is gone. The floating casinos are 500 yards inland. Tankers, CONEX boxes and these damn giant rolls of paper (well over 1 ton each) are all over. When I got to Gulfport on Thursday the 1st of Sept there was no food, no water, no gas, no sanitation, no cell service, NO NOTHING!! I want to take a quick moment to publicaly thank, and to let others know, that Outback Steakhouse and then Sprint/Nextel set up food lines for all emergency responders and fed us day and night. I am 56 years old, a "been there, done that" type from 4 in the USAF, Peace Corp, Mt. St. Helens in '81, 9 years working for the Army and 20 years with the CDC assigned to the EPA and I have NEVER, NEVER seen anything like it. I also want you all to know that the people I met in MS from Bay St. Lewis to Moss Point were ALL pulling together to help each other and to clean up their coast. Nothing like the reports out of New Orleans. Bob Safay
