Congress Set To Restrict Legal Copying
CNet has a story that says Congress is drafting new legislation designed to reduce a citizen's legal protections for personal copying. This looks like a means to limit MP3, CD copying, etc.
You might want to let your Congressman know how you feel about such legislation. Nathan Gifford |

Nathan,
Can you post a URL to the specific story so that folks have the full picture of the situation?

Here They Are...
The first URL is the story that I origianlly got. The ones that follow it are background about this issue. It is evident that the industry absolutely eliminate next generation of cassette or VHS copying rights.
While I take a dim view of copying web sites, I do not believe that the government has the obligation to eliminate P2P (peer-to-peer) just because it might be used for copying. After all, what is the difference between P2P and audio or video cassette recorders? In short, you are seeing that campaign finance reform has little impact on the big guys as they can continue to buy all the influence they want. The great thing here is that corporations cannot buy your vote, and you can let your Congressman know that you will watch his vote. http://news.com.com/2100-1023-943524.html http://news.com.com/2100-1023-939333.html http://news.com.com/2100-1023-943881.html http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1105-943985.html Nathan Gifford -------------------------- Hey Chris, is this OT enough for TOTEM??? |
