I really like the location that you managed to get. You did really well on your edit job as well. I'll just give you a little feedback, on some things that I noticed.
1. The pilot was in need of a haircut. No offense, but no actual military pilot would have long hair like that. 2. You could have done more with the "pilot leaving his girlfriend" subplot. Maybe some shots of him getting into a fighter, closeups of him in the fighter, going through cursory inspection of the plane on outside, etc. It just felt like, here he walks out of the door and suddenly he is in flight. You might have also showed his plane taxing out onto the runway. 3. The shots with the band in front of the plane were OK, except they seemed a bit static. I noticed there was a bit of movement in some shots, but the camera seemed to be on the tripod more often than not. A jib, and some dollying would have spiced it up nicely. I know you're working on a budget, so I imagine you did the best you could. Other than that, seemed great. Keep up the good work.

I did use a crane to get some of those shots, the only ones that were tripod were the subplot. the pilot was last minute because the band management wanted to keep the band members out of the "subplot" and all I had was who you saw. The real pilots were on leave for the weekend - I was LUCKY to find a helmet. remember I had no budget and very limited resources.
My plot was to be redone but VFA-204 had to leave for DET to Miami and I had originally planed on getting some preflight, pilot getting into the plane, some taxi and so on. It was just not possible. I did the best with what I had. Believe me we wanted to cut the guys hair but he would have no part of that lol..

Hello!
I've been doing Music Videos for quite some time...on a different level, but music videos nonetheless. Check out my site, www.senpaiproductions.net A lot different from what you might be use to, but give 'em a try. Anyway, seeing how limited you were, you did a pretty good job, but you could have offerend more shots of the band. Like Josh said, they seemed very static to me. Too many shots looking up, and you focused too much on the vocalist. A lot more horizontal panning would've been great. Editing seemed a bit dry. It didn't have too much "umf" to it. I hope you don't feel my advice is inferior because of my current style and inexperience with doing actual filming, but I have been editing for 3 years. ^_^ Good luck with future projects! |
