I do like the culture and the mountains, and the history, and the fact I make a LOT more money up here. I'll be back this summer for my sons' wedding at least. If he takes me back out on a boat, I may not go back. hehehe

Downside to this place....uber high cost of housing, and the poor construction quality of anything under 500k. The shoddy quality of a lot of the housing up here is depressing.

Wow, Virginia got pricey?! WHEW! It's not so cheap in most of Florida, either, but it seems to be stabilizing and not going up 30% + a year (which is great for us home owners, but bad for those who want to buy a first home or move into a bigger place).

You speak the truth.

We live in Punta Gorda Isles, where lots are being sold for one million and up (markup from about 400k only three years ago).

I am 17, with my parents in their mid-40’s --we just about the youngest people here!

Heath, how's your HDV rental going, much call for it?

I rent out gear in WC FLA, but do not rent HDV, yet... wondering what the need is and a idea of daily rate.

Please advise.

Keith, I write custom software for a govt contractor (SRA), I'm currently assigned out at Ft Belvoir just south of Alexandria.

I help out with short film projects and music videos when I get the chance.
But will be starting my own project this spring. Considering price performance issues, I'll be ordering the HD100 next month. Hopefull I can pick up some work using it for music videos (a lot of Hip Hop and RnB stuff going on up here). In DC, most folks are pretty cool if you dont' have a permit and keep it low key, though the places you can get away with that can be pretty dangerous.

Heath, I'm mainly referring to Northern VA, within 50 miles of DC. Plus the I66 corridor to Shanandoah.
What I can get in Palm Beach county for 500k is way more than what I can get up here. And I'm upset that I even
have to consider 500k just to get something decent.
In Rosslyn (part of Arlington close to DC) a 650sq ft 1 bedroom apt goes for 2200.00 a month plus utilities. And what passes
for a balcony at that place, might fit one person standing very very straight and close to the wall.
There are less expensive places if you don't mind living in cheap poorly constructed sardine cans with paper thin walls.

Dave,

It's really my friend's, I'm just helping out. HDV has quite taken off yet here, but Palm Beach County's TV stations are on DVCPro and Beta and most production companies are on HDV. Some are on HDCAM though.

Email me privately about rates.
