Welcome Frank!
I'm in Barrie. I travel fairly extensively and maybe can help you find Canadian sources.

When I was shopping areound and still undecided I got my best price on an XL1S at. Edcom have branches all over Ontario and prices seem to vary with just how hungry the salesman is when you call.

I'm very surprised you got a good deal at Edcom. The Edcom her ein London deals primarily in Panasonic, I don't know what it's like elsewhere.

I think Edcom may deal with Vinten...

Welcome Pete! Where from Ontario? Kenoro? Ottawa? Niagra Falls? :-))

I used to live just outside of Dinorvic (probably not spelled right---it was a long time ago).

It does rain alot.

On the other hand, I remember one sunny day this Febuary, I was washing my car in shorts and a t-shirt and got a phone call from my sister in Ottawa where it was -20.

I'm just outside of Ottawa - but I'm originally from the North of England, so I'm well aware of both PAL and NTSC, and have even gone to the bother of writing software to convert between them.

PAL is only really of use in Canada if you intend your video to end up on film - otherwise those extra 100 lines of resolution are more hassle than they're worth. I've had to get multi-standards gear for the most part so that I can keep working on my UK projects, and be able to test things like standards converters. But I decided to get an NTSC camera because of the compatability over here, and that I can experiment getting 24p rather than 25p, which altogether a greater challenge - but one I managed to crack! But my deck is the DSR-25, which is PAL and NTSC and very useful!

I can think of 2 other reasons for using PAL in Canucksville.
