Greetings from Montreal, Canada
I've been a member for a while, but have not been very active until recently. DVi is a great source of information of all sorts and I am happy to be a member.
Like most on this site, videography is not my full time job. I work in IT at CAE, a flight simulator manufacturer. I started making videos for a 4x4 off-roader's club, and it turns out I had a talent for it. Funny, because my mother is an actress, and my father is a producer at the Canadian Broadcasters Corporation (CBC); and it never really dawned on me to go into the business until 3 years ago. Seeing an opportunity, I managed to convince my company that it would be cost effective to produce our own marketing and corporate videos in house. And so it started, my passion and love for the business. Unfortunately, there isn't enough work for it to be full time. Anyhow, soon after, I started to have some contracts on the side; weddings and events. I am still at my boring old job as an IT guy. But I figure my days are numbered, and I will be able to do this full time on my own. An old Chinese proverb says: "Find something you like, and you'll never work a day in your life." Well that is just that, video for me is a passion, I can spend countless hours to produce a video, and I don't really feel like I've "worked" at all. Anyway, see you all in the next posts. Fred |
