cokin shade filter

i bought a cokin shade filter yesterday for a pd-150 and i m very disappointed
with the result. there's barely any shade effect... any tips on how to make it look better or it s just gotta to do with the fact that the whole thing is only effecient with still cameras?

thanx

I think they are modular and you can buy extra ones to clip together (they are the square ones, yes?)
