Way to mimc drug use on film?

Odd question I know but one relevant to the story of my new project. In the film we have a junkie that cooks and shoots up heroin. What could be used to mimic the heroin cooking? Often times they show the heroin already boiling so we fix the problem of seeing the freebase process. Any ideas?

If you ground sugar into a fine powder it would look like heroin (maybe "dirty" it up with some brown sugar), you should be able to get it to melt while holding a lighter under the spoon. But be careful, obviously, melted sugar will/can catch fire.

Of course, it's probably not any more or less dangerous than the actual heroin you're simulating, but you get my point.

Yeah I got ya, thanks. Was talking to a buddy of mine that knows a lot about food and says that sprite might work good as well.

Totally, sprite bubbling on a spoon might work. Nice thought.

Try using powdered/confectioner sugar to save yourself the effort of processing the granulated sugar. Or if you're feeling artsy and adventurous, you can always watch Requiem for a Dream to get some ideas. That's the one movie where I could swear Jared Leto was actually shooting up. Disturbing to watch, but definitely effective.

lol

Just means you got to make sure you get the shot on the first take...

The 2nd take would lack the same intensity! :)

Heck it'd probably attract some real A list Hollywood types if they think you've really got the stuff...
