You could always send your resume with your actual rates. They may go for it.

Yeah, I was thinking of moving to NYC a few years ago 'cause of my lady, so I (foolishly) started looking for stuff on there. At some point, I think I came across that whole debacle about the supposed criminal, and how IATSE was monitoring the site, etc. etc., and now I check it almost daily just for kicks.

I was doing cut and paste, when you literally cut out pictures, paste them with glue, and print with a drum mimeograph..

This guy has followed up. Apparently he got some hate mail. This is what he posted on craigslist making the same offer.

I have a lot of this stuff lying around I've been out for a while and this stuff was just gathering dust. I assure you I'm am neither a trust fund baby or a kook. I've just been out a while and looking to get back in by offering a good deal to the right project (yes I'll be a little picky).

So I'm sorry if I offended any of you "Real DPs" but I assure you none of my equipment is stolen from school, I've been out of school for about 20 years. And if you are as good as you say you are you have nothing to fear from me.

If you want to make a low budget horror (I also have about 3 gallons of fake blood), or Any other type of film (no porno) I'll talk, if you want to send me emails insulting my family tree and telling me where to stick my thumb - I'll read them too, they are amusing.

This offer is temporary one maybe two projects then I assure you I'll raise my rates so as not to "dilute the industry" (though it seems to be pretty watered down at the moment.)

Please note: You must include me in the package with credit as DP or Gaffer. You can't rent and sublease as one guy suggested. (one guy wanted to rent and rerent my stuff.)

Here's the list again:

For 150.00 a day (gas and meals extra Yes I do have an SUV big enough to carry all this - I'll take more if you offer)

_________
and he lists the stuff below again.

He posted one more time though with the following comments:

Yes I realize that I and my equipment are worth way more than 150.00/day. This is only a temporary thing, and I'm sick of being underbid too. I've been out of the game for a while (mostly in LA). So to the guy posting who does feel like he has something to fear - I make you this proposal: You saw my list of equipment and I can provide you with a list of valid credits going back 12 or so years. So, Hook me up and I'll bring my toys to the show and we can both play. I was charging 300.00 to 600.00 a day when I shot on film. Until I can make the contacts this is what I got.

The offer is good only for a short time and yes the response has been good.

Sheeze- a side note: Please, no more death threats or insults to my family tree. I'm really not worth that kind of effort.

laughable

From the Chicago craigslist:

"I need a DP who is well versed in shooting HD/DVC PRO 50 for a few hours on Saturday. Pay is $100.00

Please contact me asap if interested.

Ben"

Even in a tiny midwestern market, 2/3" DVCPro50 experience commands $40 an hour, half day minimum. And, that is still VERY low, in my humble opinion...

I am a semi-famous alternative hip-hop/dance artist signed to an independent lable with four videos under my belt looking to put together the next two. I am in search a very artistic, creative , visionary of a director to work with. If you think you are that person and are looking for a project for your reel or in need of exposure of your talents this is a great opportunity for you. There will also be a PR person working the video to make sure it gets maximum exposure. My last video got 50,000 hits on youtube in less than 2 weeks. The last director i worked with is now getting more job offers do to his incredible talent and the exposure he got.
you must:
*be resourcefull and know how to work with an extremely low budget
*passionate,creative and hard working
*be good at returning phone calls
*easy to work with and experience in collaborating
*own your digital camera and have access to most necessities for filming
*a reel of some sort, some way for me to check your previous work

**feel free to tell me more about yourself, your goals and other works you admire.
also any question..if your interested we can chat more.

thank you for taking the time to read my posting "

Semi-famous my ass. Clever how he never mentions pay or lack thereof directly. I'm just inferring, of course.

LOL. Read on...

"United States based full service film, digital cinema, television, video and radio production company, NAME REMOVED, INC. is searching the globe to fill the multiple positions of Executive Producer on the following feature film projects (removed links).

The Executive Producer(s) must have 3-5 years feature film experience, know how to close the deal and contacts that stretch from United States and beyond. These individuals must be team players and understand that our creative vision at NAME REMOVED, INC. is one of quality first, and not an attitude of just to get it in the can.

The philosophy of NAME REMOVED, INC. has always been, and will be that each "frame" and "shot" must be a work of ART. If you were to extract only one single frame from a project, enlarged it to a realistic image size on canvas, you would have an intense, deep, creative visual work of ART (period)

A lot of junk movies are produced each day in the feature film industry. Many mindsets are to get it on DVD and be happy. We are not happy with that mentality and will never change our view that it takes drive, determination and passion to see a project from conception through finished project, and have first hit the BIG SCREEN. Executive producer(s) that see the "big picture" are the types we seek for our NAME REMOVED, INC. team. If you have your own goals, vision or want to "change" things, then keep moving forward to the next production company because we will close the door without any hesitation or remorse.

Please forward via e-mail your cover letter, resume, references and other criteria to NAME REMOVED for review, and you will be contacted if we see a long term fit in our feature film goals."

They then provide links to several MySpace.com pages. Good luck, guys.

With terms like this I wish them a speedy divorce and high legal expenses. $500 for nearly 8 hours plus editing and you get paid on completion!

And they're picky about camera and reel too!

I found the original ad on August 24th. They're still looking. See the ad they posted today. I guess after not finding anyone they thought they should LOWER the offer. Now it's only $50 for a 15 hour day! That's little more than $3/hr!

If you wait any longer it might go down to $1/hr or maybe you'll be the "intern" to get to do this for Free.

He's posting every day and he keeps coming up with ways to lower his price. He wonders why people are trying to talk him down? It's EXACTLY why low balling doesn't work. For 20 days he'll go lower. Put him on the 5 year plan and I guess it's $1 a day. He'll go lower for Bloody t&a. I wonder if you do a snuff film where he's the victim would he do it for free? In a previous ad he said the price was good for all of September (after which does he lower it again?).

1 DP or Gaffer (me) and all this for 150.00 day - firm (you believe people are trying to talk me down?) Or on a longer project (20 day shoot or more) 125.00/day. and here's the insane part 110.00 if it's a horror (Bloody t&A) over 20 days.

Videogrpaher needed immediately for Fashion Week. We will be covering fashion week for our fashion/beauty magazine show. Ideal candidate will have had lots of experience shooting on video and will work well under pressure and very quickly.

Videographers will be covering top notch designers as well as up and coming new stars of the fashion world in New York for fashion week. Videogrpaher should have his or her own camera and microphone. Camera should be updated and broadcast quality.
This is an unpaid position ideally for a recent graduate of a film program. Please send a reel attached to your email. Only those that we are interested in will be contacted.
This is a great oppurtunity for someone to add Fashion week to their reel.
Tapes will belong to our producers of the show.
Only serious enquiries please as this time of the show is close.
