Renting Assurances?

Hi, I'm kind of in a sticky situation in that I'm a grad student who relies on his equipment to pay the bills on the side, the schooling is the main focus for sure for me right now.

The problem is that I injured my knee recently and will likely require surgery and I was told to expect realistically 8 months of rehabilitation.

This leaves me in a jam. I have a fairly comprehensive equipment package, and would like to go into renting it on the side now. I've done this in the past occasionally, but more with people I already knew and trusted.

I'm a bit apprehensive about renting on a regular basis, but given my situation right now (I can't even bend my knee or drive); I don't know if I have much choice.

Any ideas on what kind of procedures/process and precautions I need to take and be aware of to protect myself during this time, and make do renting until my leg gets better?

Thanks.
