Deposition equipment setup?

Any legal deposition shooters want to share their setup? I would like to make a change in my camera-to-laptop-capture setup. Unlike most other projects/clients, I must produce 4:3 aspect with lowest file size. Pristine HD quality is not a requirement. I am running:

Sony NX3 camera, 6 channel mixer with mics in, XLR to camera, HDMI out to Hauppauge HD PVR2.

Hauppauge Pros:
Monitor my capture
Capture as 4:3 (which is a must for me)
Ability to lower bit rate for smaller files

Hauppauge Cons:
No Pause button
It has now twice "stopped/restarted" while recording which makes that file unusable

We MUST record to laptop as primary and camera SD card as backup. My camera will not allow me to record at 4:3 AND use time stamp at same time so I must record at 16:9. If I use camera files as backup its not ideal because I need to convert to 4:3 and reduce file size. Completed jobs are submitted electronically so file size is a huge obstacle.

Thanks all for your input.
