The advice I've always gotten is to recognize expenses as soon as possible and recognize revenue as late as possible. December is a great time to spend money.

All done

I decided to "play it safe" and waited until January.

Got my business licence on January 5, registered the trade name with the county Superior Court, and, on the way home opened a business checking account at my local bank. Transferred money into the business checking account, then started spending THAT money - keeping it completely separate from my personal funds. Got a VISA checking card too for online purchases.

All peachee, as we say here in HotLanta (well... not so hot lately... been snowed in for a whole week).

Thanks everyone for the advice,

Congrats, I think a lot of us are interested in your plans and your camera, any hints ??

P.S. I hope your cell phone plan has more than 300 minutes :)

Thanks Don,

Really nothing fancy... I am looking right now for a used JVC GY-HD100/110/200. I already have the stuff I need for editing as I've been doing this for a church-based non-profit (video ministry) for about five years.

No Hollywood-threatening plans either as far as work type, simply put: event videography. Whatever I can get my hands on... from cradle to grave, maybe except weddings, too demanding jobs (I've done a few, and there is no escape, I know I'll have to do some more for friends, but will try to stay away as much as possible).

As detailed in other posts, anything is better than being unemployed - I got fired in July 2010 when my company sent my job south of the border...

Cell phone? Good point! I'm just about to wave good bye to 'the big phone company' and go for an 'unlimited everything' plan and an Android phone with Sprint.

I do not claim to be Mr. business, but maybe a few suggestions for you to expand your thoughts.

This was a previous thread on news stringer work. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/taking-c...-stringer.html Might be worth looking into.

I agree, weddings, no thanks. But I will offer myself with camera to other wedding photographers as a 2nd camera.

These couple of ideas may add work at minimal cost.
