Where to find business...
Okay, I have the Canon XL-1, a G4/400 with enough memory and drive space and Final Cut Pro 2 for editing. My questions is, how do you start looking for work and what type would be best to look into for the newbie. I'm in Southern California I'm just not sure where to start. Can anyone help me get off on the right foot? Thanks in advance.

My advice to you would be to go and shoot as many different subjects as you can, sports, people, conferences, etc, and find you groove. Then shoot as much of what you enjoy the most so you have something to show potential clients or employers.
The most important thing is time behind your camera so you know what's what so when a client asks for whatever look you can say, we can do that. It's like breaking into any market, you have to stand out above your competition, and in SoCal everyone is a filmmaker.

Back in the day, I cut my teeth on weddings. Find a pro wedding photog and offer your services. I did three of 'em before I started charging... remember, pay equals experience.
