Non-commercial short-term property rental insurance
Hi,
I spent a few good hours researching the above (including that 28-page insurance thread), and yet I couldn't find any solution to my situation - hence this post. We're shooting a no-budget (three-figure $) short this weekend, and my professional connections helped beyond any of my expectations - I can get a free Varicam loaner! I just don't feel like being personally liable for the ~$80k package (and neither does the producer). It's surprisingly hard to find any short-term insurance whatsoever, and the few quotes I got started at $500 for subpar coverage. Organizations that broker coverage for no-budget/student films seem more like a myth so far. State Farm doesn't cover equipment you RENT (plus their shortest policy is 6 months). RV Nuccio are only for weddings, bar mitzvahs etc. 1. If shooting without insurance is reckless, should one not make movies unless they have a four-figure budget? 2. If you do have some money and would like to spend it on renting good equipment, should you forget about it (until you have a four-figure budget)? Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated. |
