What would you charge?

If someone asked you to drive to their cabin, about 3 hours away, and do a promo video and photographs so they could put it on their website (that they also want you to make, no animations, just a simple static site with some rollovers perhaps, main page and six sub pages with verbage they'll provide). They rent the cabin as a business so they want beauty shots and a video that would show the fun aspects of the area and the internals of the cabin. Activities include, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, sailing (small boats), off road vehicle driving, digging for crystals, wild-life voyeuring (ha ha). All of this in a very hilly region. They are suggesting me going with them for two days...any ideas on how to price this? Or what would you charge?

I would give them a full day rate for each day you're there, plus whatever your time would be on the website and editing. I'd guess you'll be on site two days, two days on the website, and another two days doing editing and printing. If I felt comfortable that they wanted me and could afford it, I'd probably quote it at about $3600 - $800 per day shooting, $500 per day in the office. I have no idea if you can charge that much for this, but that's where I usually try to start the negotiations.

If they rent it out for $1000/wk, which depending on location and size is probably fairly low to average cabin pricing, I bet a nice video and website would bring in more than 4 weeks worth of business.

It sounds like a fun project - I'm a bit jealous (-:

Thank you Philip, that is exactly what I was looking for... Yes it should be fun and a beautiful area to cover.

More questions?

Would you include the photos in the $800 day rate for video, or charge extra for that? Meaning since you're doing both photos and video, would you charge more than if you were just doing one or the other? Also, if all they want are photos, would you still do the full day rate at $800 if your day rate included both photo and video? Thanks again!
