Sharing lenses for Canon still and video cams?
Hi, I am asking this question for a friend. Which Canon digital still cam can share lenses with the XL1? You see he has an XL1, his photo kit (Nikon) got recently stolen from his car and he wants to buy all Nikon again... but I think if he buys a Canon digicam he might be able to share lenses... so which camera should he buy that will allow him to share lenses easily among his video and photo cams?

The XL mount is unique to the Canon XL1 series video cameras and does not fit any still cameras at this time. The present lenses just cover the 1/3 inch CCD chip and that size chip is usually used in more compact digicams. The use of an XL mount lens would dwarf the camera. The Digital Rebel, 10D etc. all use larger chips and can not use the XL mount lenses due to insufficient coverage of the lenses.

Any of the Canon "EF" serise lenses will work on the XL1 or XL1s as long as you have the EF adaptor to fit in between the camera and the lens. Your friend could learn a lot by visiting the Canon website.
Hope this helps. GDOG
