Merlin Maintence & Lost a locking knob on my Merlin

Hello guys,

I own 2 Merlins and while shooting a job on the weekend, I lost one of the 2 locking knobs on my Merlin. I checked BH to see if they actually sell a replacement part but it's not there. Any ideas? I figure I'll drop a post here; going to check the Tiffen website right now.

Also, any idea on what is the best lubricants to spray/apply on the trim rollers to keep the trimmers nice and easy to adjust? One of my Merlins is 2nd hand and the previous owners treated it like pure crap and the trim rollers are annoying stiff to adjust!

Thanks in advance.

Michael

Can't really speak from experience as my Merlin is still really new, but I'd think that a LITTLE puff of the powdered graphite lube they use for door locks etc might work - no grease etc to build up and harden.

Unless anyone knows a reason this would cause a problem, it's the first thing I'd try myself if I had the problem.

Call Tiffen directly for the spare part. They can probabaly recomend some good lube too.

Just whatever you do, DON'T use WD-40. (It's not a lube)

Jim & Mikko,

thank you for the suggestions, I contacted Tiffen; Kyle over there is kind enough to send replace my locking knob free of charge; we'll see what he recommends re lubing up trim rollers.

Thanks for the suggestions
