problem with merlin dovetail plate clamp

(the bit you move to take the camera on and off the rig) it has come loose and fallen off. Now I can't reattach it. I have been trying for hours. I have worked out exactly how it needs to go on but it just won't grip onto the dovetail plates thread. What can i do?

Thanks

Phil
