Is a vest necessary?
I have a Devin Graham Glidecam and I am flying a 6d as well as a C100. Does using a vest like the smooth shooter really practical? I travel with alot of gear and my fear of getting a vest is more stuff to lug around. Do you guys get by flying without the vest or do you really rely on it? My shots are not really long but as you know your wrist becomes very weak very fast. My other concern is how the vest may put strain on your back. My back isn't the strongest but would like to get some feedback from others who have been flying with a vest. Does your back hurt or are you better off using it verses breaking your wrist for the shots. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you

Re: Is a vest necessary?
I can't answer any of the questions other than this one:
The vest would actually help your back, not hurt it, by distributing the weight more evenly across your entire body, upper and lower. I'd imagine you'd notice this more when you shoot without the vest, as your arm gets tired. Instead of relying on the muscles there, you'll be using those in your back, by that arm. |
