HD Monitor for Glidecam Smooth Shooter.
Hi,
Have been looking at getting a Monitor to mount on the 4000 Pro sled of my Glidecam Smooth Shooter. Have been looking at the SmallHD 5.6 monitor as it has HDSDI for my EX3 and it has a good resolution. Also I can use it with my Canon EOS 7D when not on the Glidecam Has any one had experience with this monitor on the Smooth Shooter? Any pictures of your set up, I would love to see. Any other suggestion are welcome. Regards |

You don't really need an HD monitor for Steadicam. It's more important that you can actually see the monitor on a sunny day. Anti-reflective coatings are critical, and a brighter monitor (higher nits) helps also.
In fact, many professional operators still use the "green screen" CRT monitors. These are standard definition, but they are the absolute best in bright sunlight. They're also $15,000 and quite heavy. Bottom line: The number of nits is more important than the number of pixels. The EX3 and 7D both have standard definition composite video outputs. The EX3 has it on a BNC connector, and the 7D has it on a special mini-USB connector. |

Yes the glossy screen worries me a bit but the weight is quite good.
Lot of the monitors when set up with a battery are far to heavy to balance. Wouldn't it be great if we could try things out before we purchased them. Barry. |
