A little OT: Anyone familiar with motorized pan/tilt?

Hi,

One of my clients does 3 day seminars where he moves around a lot and likes the camera in close so I'm constantly having to pan with him to keep him in the shot. I've been looking at motorized remote pan/tilt heads on the web and they seem to jump from around $100 to thousands of dollars.

Is anyone familiar with the Bescor MP-101 that B & H sells?

At that low price ($ 119.95) will I be sacrificing anything like smoothness of pan?

Thanks,

Tony

Generally speaking, that answer will be YES. That unit looks very similar to one we attempted to use once but just could not be smoothly controlled (may be the same one but I don't know without locating it at church). I would definitely want to get it from someplace that allows returns and give it a thorough test before attempting to use it for any real event. I seriously don't think you would be happy with that unit.

Thanks Edward, that's what I feared. Were you able to find anything that worked smoothly at a reasonable price?

At the time, we quit looking. We may be looking again soon, though. We're getting ready to build a new sanctuary.

Sounds good. If you find anything workable that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd love to hear about it. And if I find anything I'll let you know too.
