Suspending Camera from Balcony
I need to suspend a small camera from a theater balcony so it is over the aisle and facing the stage. Need a drop of about 6'. Does anyone know of a mount that will hold do this? I can clamp to pipe railing on balcony.
Thanks Reed

This shouldn't be too hard to do.
I don't know exactly what you are trying to clamp to but have you though of using one of the "superclamps"? Impact | Super Clamp with Standard Stud | KCP700B26 | B&H Photo From there you just need an adjustable stage and a boom. I've got a good variety of this kind of stuff so I can put cameras just about anywhere. Browse through this section of B&H and you should be able to put something together that will work. To build upon what Chris said, you could try this: Bogen / Manfrotto | Super Clamp with 056 3-D Junior Head | 2910
or if you need something with a longer reach, this: Bogen|Manfrotto 2929 Variable Friction Magic Arm For both you'll want a very secure platform. If you have any movement at the clamp, the second unit will be more tend to move, but not much. Both will articulate into nearly any position you want. The second is better because of its longer reach. I have both and they are absolutely excellent. |
