Beyond 10 hrs
How do you charge if the shoot is beyond 10hour days? For eg for a 14 hour day, do you charge full day rate for 10 hrs and then add 40% extra? Or do you charge 1.5 times your per hour rate for the extra 4 hours?
Or do you just carry on without charging extra? The reason for asking is for a project this kind of 14 hours schedule continued for several days starting from 6 am in the morning. |

Re: Beyond 10 hrs
My "normal" hours are 8 AM to 6 PM - anything before or after gets billed 50% higher.

Re: Beyond 10 hrs
After 10 hours, it's time and a half UNLESS something was worked out in advance.
IE, I had a client that did a seminar and on the first day of the job would be a 12 to 14 hour day BUT the 2nd day was 4 hours and because it was a client that gave me lots of other work and the 2nd day was easy peasy, I didn't charge the overtime for the first day but this was always worked out in advance. More than 4 hours and BAM! He got charged. Work it out in advance or keep to the standard and charge OT. When I shot NASCAR the last day of the job which was race day always ended up being a16 to 20 hour day. Time and a half over 10. ALWAYS. It was the normal and accepted billing.

Re: Beyond 10 hrs
If you don't have a time and a half threshold, the client is much more likely to burn you out by avoiding another shoot day.
Some even have a second double time threshold after 16 hours. The reason for that is if the shoot goes long enough, it can impact your ability to work the following day with other clients given lack of sleep, equipment maintenance, breakdown and travel time. |
