Re: SPC / more for less, client pays in end
Very interesting to read your thoughts!
I live in an area where my SPC business is a huge draw for SME sized business owners and the points below are exactly how i market myself when I meet clients. - I don't have to pay crew, keeps cost down - the clients gets my complete attention for their project - my clients take a very active role in preproduction. It's part of my business model. Keeps the client completely committed to and involved in the project - my rates, compared to others in my market are much lower. Most of my competition are 2 -10 employee sized studios and my rates are almost 50% lower. - I work out of a spare bedroom. I have clients come to my apt. Again, the savings are huge and it makes my service seem very personal. Most of my jobs are 3-6 day projects not including preproduction - I own all my equipment, only rent in extreme cases - I get a good portion of my month from repeat clients and referrals. These are all points which help my SPC business. I try to keep my delivery times low, 4 - 6 days. So my day rate is a pretty flat 3000¥(500usd). Only full day rates are quoted. I simply charge more for extra shoot gear. This makes it very easy for the client in terms of pricing: simple, no bs I think being an experienced SPC is a plus, no? Or maybe it's just my market.
