Shutter Speed adjustment on manual

I have found the answer to my own question, but will leave it here in case others run into the same issue: Answer at the end

I am unable to get the white highlight behind the shutter speed reading, that will allow the manual change of shutter speed with SEL/SET dial.

I have been able to get it previously, but the option has gone away, now, when I press the shutter speed button.

The manual says:
1 Press the FULL AUTO button A to set full auto mode off.
2 Press the SHUTTER SPEED button H to highlight the shutter speed value.

When I press the shutter speed button it just toggles the "A" auto symbol on and off.

I thought I had a fault in my camera, but I have just tried to do the same on a friends camera and the same thing is happening.

There must be a setting somewhere to change this functionality.


ANSWER: It will not work with "face detection" turned on.
