Can someone please explain to me what the Camera Master Gain Adjustment is on the FS5
I'm not sure what it is. I've tried setting the AGC to off, to zero, but I still see this Camera Master Gain Adjustment go as high as 15dB for some clips when I view in Catalyst Browse. I have the camera set to ISO and not Gain. Can someone enlighten me, thanks. Please look at the pic for reference.

I switched to gain because its much easier to wrap my head around (Sony ISO values are a fair amount off)
In CINE2 at 3200ISO is a fair amount of gain... I believe 15db is probably correct for that gamma base ISO or zero gain for LOG is 3200, Cine1 is 500 and CINE4 gamma is 800 (I think, just going from memory) the point is base ISO is different depending on what gamma your in, and thats why I like the sensitivity deployed as gain (0 is always the lowest) |

So essentially, shooting in CINE2 at 3200ISO is the same as shooting with 15dB of gain?

My best guess is that using ISO or sensor gain to achieve the reqsensitivity

My best guess is that using either 'ISO' or 'sensor gain' to achieve the required imaging sensitivity ... is a bit like turning a focus ring on a lens and using either the metres or feet reading as to how far away the focus point is.
Two different ways of dialling up the same outcome. Andrew |

Re: Can someone please explain to me what the Camera Master Gain Adjustment is on the
Sony says the base ISO of CINE2 is 640 (in reality is is lower than 640, but that is a topic for another discussion) so if you are shooting at 3200 you have increased the senstivity by roughly 2.5 stops. And +15 dB Gain also represents an increase in sensitivity by 2.5 stops. So Two different ways of saying the same thing.
Like Ray, I also use Gain rather than the unnecessarily confusing and (usually) incorrect ISO mode.
