Longer zoom for FS7?
We shoot a lot of Multi cam stuff, and in the past we used two fs100's with the Sony 18-200, sony Vg30, and
For the longest zoom, the nx5u. But now that I , and two guys I work with, have Fs7's, I'm trying to stick with these cameras. I did a test for a client who asked, and realized that for a head shot with a few inches of head room and maybe 6" below the chin, the fs7 with the 18-200 couldn't be any farther than 29 feet. The nx5u, on the other hand, got the same framing at 55 feet. So I 'd like to know what lens anybody's using for increased distance zoom. I don't know if there are extenders for the 18-200's, but with any stop loss, those lenses would be un usable in low light. I'd appreciate any feedback. By the way, does Sony make an extender for the new 24-105 f4? Thanks Bruce Yarock |

Re: Longer zoom for FS7?
You could check out the the high end cine zooms, which are 25 to 250mm, but come at a higher rental cost and weight. Alternately, you could use a telephoto zoom, which go up to 300mm, but have around 75mm at the wide end and commonly some aperture ramping.
Unfortunately, there is a reason why broadcasters use 2/3 cameras for this type of work. Last edited by Brian Drysdale; June 4th, 2015 at 07:53 AM. |

Re: Longer zoom for FS7?
Don't forget that Sony has said the FS7 will have the center crop feature (same as F55 and F5) with a future firmware update. So, for example, a 50-150 f/2.8 would become a 100-300 f/2.8 as long as you don't need 4K. Or a 70-200 f/2.8 becomes a 140-400 f/2.8. That will solve your problem of having a fast, long lens, that won't break the bank.

Re: Longer zoom for FS7?
Sony has only said "Future Update" so it is anyone's guess as to the timetable.
