First commercial with F3, RGB s log option

I shot a spec commercial with the new RGB, s log option today. Its been a worldwind 24 hrs. Sony Canada got the beta firmware yesterday at noon, and had it installed on Visteks demo in the afternoon. We did some quick checks with their Cinedeck, and I spent all last night figuring it out.

We shot today, and their were challenges, and we basically flew by the seat of a pants. A small crew, and a fast pace. Its amazing how much extra it feels like you get with the upgrade. So much more sensitivity and room to play with.

Didn't get a chance to get more testing in, but so far its great. There's some things in the firmware that need to be added that was mentioned before, and the rig was big and heavy. We had Zeiss CP 2's, my Red 50-150. Shot in Pro Res 4444, because I was having some issues with the other codecs and no time to make sure it would work through post.

The one thing I can say is that for a lot of things uncompressed is not needed. A 256g SSD showed around 18 mins of recording in uncompressed. Wow, that's a lot of data.

I've got stills, and going to get some selects posted soon. If all goes well it will play at the Profusion event in Toronto in June.

Still have a few minor things to get sorted out with the media....

I had the rec 709 Lut applied to the sdi output for viewing. That was also recorded to the SxS cards internally. We were very happy how that looked as a baseline.

They did mention summer for the release of the firmware. We will see
