Birger mount for the F3 or similar ?
I am not a big poster here ( still a New Boot after 5 years ! But has it's time for me to replace my HPX 170 which I have just sold and like a lot of people who have been in the HDSLR craze for the last 2 years I have quite a few of good Canon EF L glass.
I do have a gorgeous set of fast Nikon AI though, cinevized locally here in Saigon which I use often for narrative and corporate work . However I don't know if it's comfort or anything , but I have been "spoiled " having on a shoulder rig the IS feature of the L 70/200 ( the 24/105 L been kind of an OK lens on the shorter side ) So the question is is there any possibility to have a king of a Birger mount made for the F3 knowing there is some electronic contacts ? I just sent a question to Birger on that mater and I am waiting for their answer |

Just got a reply from Erik at Birger
"This product is coming, but not until after we release our product for the AF100" Which is great ! |

Re: Birger mount for the F3 or similar ?
B&H Photo is selling an EF adapter that I purchased for my F3. Of course you have to set the Lenses F/Stop on a DSLR body first but it works. Still waiting on Birger for the AF100 solution which is to be released before the F3. It' been a long wait and 3 -4 missed release dates. Kind of losing my faith in Eric over there at Birger mainly for lack of COMMUNICATION by not informing future customers of current status on either the AF100 or Sony F3 to EF adapters.
B&H Photo-Parts Description: Adaptimax ADAPTER CANON EF to PMW-F3 - ADAPACF3 374.95 , not cheap but works great. |

Re: Birger mount for the F3 or similar ?
MTF showed a working prototype of their electronic control box and adapter for the F3 and Canon lenses at IBC. The cost is "less than 1000 euro's" and it should be available in about 60 days. The control box and adapter are separate items, so if you have an FS100 or AF101 you only have to get a new adapter ring for each camera.

For shoulder mount, the IS of some of the L and even EFs is quite good for me it will be the decisive point for getting one !

I don't know. The lens is powered by the device so it is quite possible that IS will work. I'll try to find out.

Re: Birger mount for the F3 or similar ?
Erik is going to show the adapter next week in the Sony booth at Createasphere NYC. He is also going to stop by and let us check it out, we plan to make a video blog on it.. So look for that next week.

Re: Birger mount for the F3 or similar ?
I spoke to Mike at MTF and at the moment the prototype does not control the IS but it is only a matter of sending the correct signal to the lens to activate it. Mike is working on this along with focus control.

Re: Birger mount for the F3 or similar ?
As far as I'm concerned IS is the big kahuna here. Without it the birger or anything like it is just an alternative to the Nikon mount for people who want to save a few grand because they have an investment already in Canon glass. Reasonable but there are advantages to Nikon glass- manual irises and especially parfocal zooms.
However having shot a good deal of handheld with my F3 and a 28-70 or 17-35 I can see that I am simply not as steady as I was on an EX-1 with steady shot. IS might make me switch to Canon glass |

Or a Nikon adapter with electronic control, the Nikon protocols are much much simpler than Canon's.
