60p resolution hit?

Hi Daniel, the only time you'll be able to overheat a Cinedeck is with fan control set to low and the take is extremely long.

The only reason to use fan control low, is when you are recording audio and you don't want the fan noise to be picked up by mics. I do a lot of music videos, so I'm not recording audio at all. When I do film work, takes are short, so again not an issue.

I've had to leave the Cinedeck at home only for a few shoots. I did a documentary where there were multiple interviews that were REALLY long, like 1 hour takes! The cinedeck would have been no good for this, unless I put the fan control on high and put it in another room.

I don't consider overheating an issue on the Cinedeck at all.

Thanks Aaron! The Cinedeck is very tempting. Have you had any other issues with it?

I'm going to wait and see how much the new Sony recorder will cost (plus 1TB memory) before I make a decision. Until then, my Ki Pro will tide me over.

The Cinedeck's LCD is not very high quality. When I used 1:1 pixel, I was shocked to see such low quality.

When I bought the Cinedeck, there was nothing that could come close to it for anything less than about 35K.

It allowed me to record 4:4:4 uncompressed from my Viper, untethered (recorder mounted on camera), all on battery power in the field. Read that again. Not a whole lot of recorders can do that at anywhere near this price point. Plus I really love the Cineform codec. The recent adding of the Prores codec is welcome too.

However, that was over a year ago. I think at NAB you'll finally see some 4:4:4 recorders that can compete with the Cinedeck on features and cost. The two recorders that I'm thinking of already address my main concerns with cinedeck. That includes size, weight, power consumption, windows based OS.

Funny thing though, neither of those recorders have a screen at all. Most recorders don't. I certainly don't think I need a screen in my recorder. I'd miss the waveform but that's about it.

Honestly though, if I didn't need 4:4:4, I'd have never bought a Cinedeck because my Flash XDR (or a nanoFlash) is a fine recorder all by itself.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Cinedeck isn't worth the money. It is just shocking that an $11,000 recorder doesn't have a good LCD when the makers tout the LCD as one of its great advantages. In fact, I am jealous that you have one and a true 444 camera to use with it.

Hi Aaron,

Which codec you choose at 'input' tab for 1080/60p?
My Cinedeck EX cannot record in any codec except Cineform (422/8bit) at 1080/50p@422.

That's corect. The Cinedeck only record 1080p/60 with 8bit Cineform Codec only. I've been told that other codecs should allow it soon.
