PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
Firmwares: PXW-X200 V1.20 : Software/Drivers : Other : Sony Professional
It simply won't update, tried exFAT and UDF and followed the Update PDF step-by-step... "Expand the zip file, and save the update data file (model name_Y.YY_XXXX-SxS.f.bin) to the location on the SxS memory card that you inserted in step 3 , as shown below: • For FAT or UDF: Directly under the root directory • For exFAT: Directly under the XDROOT directory" Just getting: "Version upgrade no file" |

Re: PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
Dumb Sony. My X180 only allows camera f/w updates through the "utility" SD slot, and network f/w updates only through the "proxy" SD slot.
If it makes any difference, if there is a secondary file in the f/w zip, throw that on the card as well......that's how I did my X180's. Paul |

Re: PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
Yes the X180 and X200 update differently, at least when I did the X180, it only allow updating via the SD card slot whereas the X200 is looking for the update on the SXS card, which you can see in the menu - Update only lights up (greyed out) when an SXS card is inserted...

Re: PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
Heh, older cameras like my EX1R could update with the SD card adapter. I guess they found this out and added a software lock to ensure you had a SxS to update. Even XQD won't work?
If this is the case, that's how it will stay so in the end you still have to borrow an SxS to update the camera. |

Re: PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
I'm using 128GB SXS Pro+ cards, and the camera seems to think there is an update when I insert the card as the Update options becomes highlighted (from greyed out) but can find/use the update and I've tried 2 cards and both cameras...
I'll try the SD card option next week when I'm back from the weekend recording. |

Re: PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
May just be a compatibility issue, that it only accepts SxS-1 or SxS-Pro (no plus sign) cards. I recommend against using SD cards to update cause if the software lockout theory is correct, it wouldn't help.
This camera was rushed out, so maybe they didn't work out the compatibility issues. Can you try re-downloading the update? Sony UK and Sony Europe require compulsory login before downloading so you may have downloaded an HTML file by mistake. If all else fails, contact Sony for a private FTP link instead. |

Re: PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
Thanks Zack, tried with SXS-Pro and the + cards, and downloaded from UK and EU site (seems the same) no joy.
Call logged with Sony. I'll ask them to actually do the update on one of their X200's and let me know if it works and EXACTLY what steps they followed... |

It turns out the first version/file seemed to be corrupted and I've downloaded and successfully updated both x200's from the zip file Sony put up.
No sign of updated manual though and WiFi doesn't seem to work.... |

Ha, Sony had not put up the network part of the update which is separate from the main update, no wonder networking wasnt working! Good support from UK Primesupport contacting Japan to find out what was happening.

Re: PXW-X200 firmware 1.20 out - if only it would update...
We just had this happen at an actual Sony event and it turns out on certain SxS cards in exFAT you need to put the .bin file INSIDE the XDROOT folder, not on the root of the card.
Seems counter intuitive to it saying it always has to be on the root of the card, right? |

Anyone have a link to the X200 user manual online? I found some amendum on the UK/EU Sony site, but not the full actual EN manual!
