Reading SxS-Cards with a ordinary ExpressCard-Adapter?
Hey everybody!
i need an SxS-Card-Reader to conect to my computer via USB. There are several offers for SxS-Card-Readers on the internet, starting for 100€ up to 300€... I wonder, can't i just use a ordinary ExpressCard-to-USB-Adapter, like this one: DeLock Adapter USB 2.0 Express Card 34 mm, 61714 | eBay (they are a lot cheaper) any experiences? Thanks! |

Re: Reading SxS-Cards with a ordinary ExpressCard-Adapter?
Hi Thomas,
I use one of these: https://www.secomp.nl/shop/artikelde...el-Nr=15062191 Ultra-cheap, less than €10 and the fastest transfer method there is for SBS to PC. Though, two disadventages: - They only read SxS, not a Expresscard adapter with SDHC card inserted (I use a simple USB 3.0 cardreader to read these SD cards). - They are not hot-swappable. You have to restart your PC with the SxS inserted to make it work. Though, now used to it, I like this cardreader. Just curious how they can manuacture it for only €10 ;-) |

MXM PCI-E Express Card Reader for SxS & MxM
Bit more expensive, reads SXS and SDHC cards. I have two of them and they work great but you do have to restart your PC with the SXS inserted. |

Re: Reading SxS-Cards with a ordinary ExpressCard-Adapter?
None of the above are USB readers, they are all PCIe and require a PCIe slot in a desktop PC.
The OP's original link is to a USB card reader and he was asking about USB readers. This will almost certainly not read an SxS card as SxS cards use the PCIe interface, not the USB interface (regular PCIe cards have both an internal USB2 and PCIe interface, SxS cards only have a PCIe interface). For USB your only options are the original SBAC-US10 USB2 card reader or the newer and cheaper SBAC-US20 USB2/USB3 card reader. If your computer has Thunderbolt there is the Sonnet Echo Express. If all you want to read is SD cards that have been used in an SxS to SD adapter then any SD card reader will work.
