Re: First hand encounters of XQD uses for the EX1, EX3 and EX1R?
I can tell you all right now, if you have the latest firmware version, it does indeed work.
On EX1R firmware 1.31 it does work as a SxS replacement. In fact, on SD card adapters, it has to create the /PRIVATE/SONY/ folders on the SD card to prevent conflict with AVCHD files, but the BPAV folder is on the true root of the card when you use a XQD card. Overcranked for as long as I wanted and it didn't fail on me. This is on the new S series card. It is still compatible despite some re-working of the controller chip inside the card for faster speeds.
As long as you have the absolute latest version of your EX1, EX1R or EX3's firmware, it will work. I want to thank James for checking with me on his EX3, and now I'm a happy XQD user on my EX1R.
Also, I mirror James' advice to leave the card in the adapter if you have an ExpressCard port on your computer to read the card. The QDA-EX1 is a non-locking adapter so unless you're using the USB 3.0 reader, leave it in for general use. Treat it like a MxM card before it had the locking mechanism.
