Re: "Mastering Sony's PMW-200, -160, -150, -100 XDCAM CAMERAS"
thanks Doug for your "Sony Video info videos.
They are making me want to switch from my EX-1 to the new PMW-200 a little sooner than I thought I was going to. Very informative

Re: "Mastering Sony's PMW-200, -160, -150, -100 XDCAM CAMERAS"
The EBU now has a number of standard reference levels for Audio inputs and outputs. The idea being that new cameras should offer an EBU Level setting in the menu to make it easier to set a camera up to meet these common EBU specs without having to look up what the correct levels are. I believe the EBU reference level for 1Khz tone is actually -18db.

Doug, I noticed that in the video your PMW-200 was set to 24p. Is this your preferred framerate?

Hi Anthony,
I choose whichever frame rate is best suited for the production I'm working on. Looking back over the last year or two with all of my cameras, It probably works out to about 25% 24P and 75% 30P . . . and never 60i under any circumstances.

I just purchased the Sony PXW-X70 XDCAM....... I sure hope Doug comes out with some tutorials on this one. Do you know if his current XDCAM tutorials come close to this camcorder? Thanks, Ray

Re: "Mastering Sony's PMW-200, -160, -150, -100 XDCAM CAMERAS"
Sorry Ray, I have no plans to do any training for the X70. I'm sure it's a wonderful camera but with so many cameras coming out every year I have to be selective about which ones deserve the 6-8 weeks worth of my attention and which do not. The X70 didn't make the cut. :-(
The closest match I have is my PMW-200 video. Mastering the PMW-200-160-150-100 Camcorders Thanks for asking.

Looks like Doug applies the "John West effect" as demonstrated in this ye olde commercial:
It's the cameras Doug rejects that makes his training the best. :-P Andrew |

Good one, Andrew!
Yes, I'm working on a 4-hour PXW-FS7 training video. Have been for about 5 weeks now and have another 3 to go. With any luck it will be ready for streaming by the end of the month and available on DVD shortly thereafter. Thanks for asking.
