I do have the optional cable, but when I choose composite/AV out, there is no signal going out the S-Video, only the composite.

I have the S-video cable too and it works for me, the picture is cleaner than over composite (as it should be).

Then it must be that the EX1 supports it and the EX1R took away that support.
