Thunderbolt MBP & SxS & Lion?
What is the current compatibility status of Sony's SxS cards in the new 17" Thunderbolt MacBook Pro when running Lion? Does the new version of the17" MBP and the current Sony drivers work with Lion or do we have to hope Sony will provide new drivers some day?
Also do most people here prefer the anti-glare screen over the glossy? The color on the glossy screen does look better, but worried about the glare... |

Re: Thunderbolt MBP & SxS & Lion?
I am currently running FCP 7 on the new MBP, 512GB SSD HD, also running snow loepard.
Not going to update to Lion, or FCP X until they get a decent product. I would bet that the S X S cards do not work on the new system yet. I would wait until you hear everything is up and running before you switch to Lion, or you will be very upset at Apple as many people are now. edited to add: BTW I also have the anti glare screen and it is very helpful in a bright situation.

My advice from previous experience is: wait at least a year before updating your OS. Being an early adopter in these matters is asking for trouble.

Perhaps some helpful information regarding the whole of Sony's EX software and Lion.

Re: Thunderbolt MBP & SxS & Lion?
My plan is to have two partitions - Snow on one and Lion on the other. I've done this on my desktop machine and it works for me. I run FCP7 under Snow only and then when I want to spend $400 I'll put FCPX on the Lion side.
I wanted to make sure Apple didn't change something about the Express Card slot in this latest MBP the screws up things for the Sony SxS cards. I think I remember a time when that occurred in the past. |

Re: Thunderbolt MBP & SxS & Lion?
I don't think the problem is going to be the slot (the hardware) it's whether Sony updates their software (applications, drivers, etc..) for Lion. I do know that they don't have the proper log & transfer software for FCPX.
My "guess" is that Sony's SxS software/drivers/etc... work in Lion, but I don't have Lion, so I haven't tried it.

Re: Thunderbolt MBP & SxS & Lion?
Well, I can now verify that the hardware has not changed, the old drivers work on the express card slot on an early 2011 MBP (Thunderbolt) under Snow Leopard.
I will test it in Lion when I get things loaded up... |
