battery for EX-1 that has D-tap and can use Sony charger?

Hi there,
I've got a Comer 1800 on-board light that needs a D-tap connector on the battery.
The battery can connect to the EX-1 via DC in, but needs this D-Tap.
I also want to be able to charge this battery with the Sony charger.
Is there such a battery?
thanks,
Malcolm

I have that same battery and it charges fine in the stock Sony charger.

You have to make sure you plug the pigtail into the recess on the top corner of the battery or it won't charge.

Hi Chris,
I'm not sure what battery you're talking about.
I got the Comer 1800 light, and a big U95 battery. I was told by the seller that the U95 would charge in my Sony charger.
But when I got the light and the battery, the U95 would not, in fact, charge in my Sony charger.
I contacted the seller, who apologized ("It's not the battery. It's the charger. There were some incident the Sony charger won't charge third party battery") and offered to sell me—shipping would be free—a Comer charger.
The thing is, like many of us on this forum, I work alone. My Portabrace bag is already full, and heavy.
I don't want to carry two chargers wherever I go.

So I'm looking for a battery that:
1. has the D-Tap (that the Comer 1800 needs
2. can connect to the EX-1, via DC in
and
3. can charge in the Sony charger.

Any suggestions?
thanks, Malcolm

wait a minute, Chris. Are you saying that this U95 battery will attach to my Sony charger and charge... if I "plug the pigtail into the recess on the top corner of the battery"?
Can you elaborate please?
I'm far from home (where I left the light and the battery, when it seemed to me that the battery wouldn't charge), so I can't try it now. But are you saying that when I put the U95 in the Sony charger, I take the pigtail (that comes out of the battery), and plug it in... where? Into the Sony battery-charger? I can't really plug the pigtail into the battery itself. I'm confused.
M.

The Swit EX battery will do what you asked for.

Duncan.

Re: battery for EX-1 that has D-tap and can use Sony charger?

Duncan, thanks for this. Is this the battery that you mean?

Series 7 EX-L96 14.4v 96W Lithium-Ion Battery Pack EX-L96 B&H

It's the "Series 7 EX-L96 14.4v 96W Lithium-Ion Battery Pack"

On the B&H site, it specifically mentions:
- Additional Powertap Output
and.
- Charges on Sony BC-U1 Charger

Does the "Additional Powertap Output mean D-Tap?

thanks for your help (I don't want to make another mistake)...
Malcolm

Sorry for the confusion. I was typing too much at the end of the work day.

The battery you gave the link to is what you want. You will want to make sure you plug the pigtail into the top of the battery when you charge it on the Sony charger.

You will have a D-Tap outlet to run the light.

Chris

Wow... this is great. Everything on my list:

1. has the D-Tap (that the on-board Comer 1800 light needs)
2. can connect to the EX-1, via DC-in
and
3. can charge in the Sony charger

Thanks so much all.

So Chris, just so it's absolutely clear to me, is this the battery that you have, and you know works:

Swit, Series 7 EX-L96 14.4v 96W Lithium-Ion Battery Pack EX-L96

thanks,
Malcolm

Yep. I use it on an EX1r and use the D-Tap for a SmallHD monitor. Works like a champ. I use the stock Sony charger to charge it.

Re: battery for EX-1 that has D-tap and can use Sony charger?

short little addendum to this... I emailed Swit to ask about buying this battery in Canada (I included the link in my post, along with my list of requirements for the battery), and someone from Swit wrote back to say the battery I need is the:

S-8U62

I realized then that the Series 7 EX-L96 I'd linked to is a Switronix battery (why would two companies have such similar names? It's not as if 'swit' is Latin for 'battery').

So I guess either of these batteries would do. If anyone's had experience with both, and can recommend one over the other, I'd appreciate a bit more info... but maybe that's not allowed (since one of these companies is a DVinfo sponsor, I think).

regards, Malcolm

Re: battery for EX-1 that has D-tap and can use Sony charger?

I have both batteries they both work well and charge fine on the Sony Charger.

The 96 runs a lot longer, but is heavier. I use both types to run the NanoFlash as well as the Camera.

I have used both types more than a year and they are still running fine. I have actually had more problems with Sony batteries than these.

Here is a photo of the 96 in my EX3 running camera and NanoFlash. The NanoFlash is mounted on my bracket custom made for the EX cameras, for more info contact me or check out my site.
