XDCAM Transfer for clip without file structure
Hi folks,
I have now almost got my workflow (EX3 to FCP / AE CS5) down, but I am having a problem with a clip from the first shoot we tested the camera on. I am using an adapter and SDHC cards and I know that file structure must be maintained for a successful transfer to quicktime in XDCAM Transfer. However, the final clip from the first shoot is not in the right structure and appears to be a clip on its own, outwith the folders. The associated files (folder and .smi, .ppn, .xml and .bim) are nowhere to be found. As such, XDCAM Transfer is not seeing this clip and I can't get it in to transfer. I read that the latest version of the software should be able to rescue the clip, but the thread on another forum is old and closed. Does anyone have any experience of this or advice of how it might be done? Thanks Mike |

Re: XDCAM Transfer for clip without file structure
Try putting the card back in the camera to see if it will do a media restore to re-build the file structure correctly. If not go "file" "import" in clip browser to import the MP4 file on its own.

Re: XDCAM Transfer for clip without file structure
Hi Alister,
I no longer have the card with all the data - we were shooting a lot of cards and dumping them on to twin hard drives (with file structure in tact). I have no idea how one of the clips got loose. Do you think trying to put some back onto the card with that clip might work? I tried XDCAM Transfer but File > Import is greyed out until you add a folder with clips/structure and when you do that it appears but selecting import only begins the import/transfer of the files added, it does not allow me to import individual clips.. Thanks |

Re: XDCAM Transfer for clip without file structure
Not XDCAM transfer. You need to use the new XDCAM Browser or older XDCAM Clip Browser.
Create a folder on your hard drive or use an existing SxS card. Select it and click "File", "Import" and it will allow you to import any orphaned MP4's into a new BPAV folder or an existing BPAV folder.

Re: XDCAM Transfer for clip without file structure
Ah, sorry I missed that part!
Anyway, I did that and rescued the clip and it worked perfectly, thanks a lot for you help. Turns out the clip was just a short test, but this is valuable for the future, just in case - but hopefully it won't happen again anyway. Thanks again Mike |
